![]() Umbrella Corps’ mouse controls are an atrocious, analogue-input-simulating mess. Here’s what you’re dealing with on keys (which can be somewhat redefined, but certain buttons like Ctrl are forbidden for some bizarre reason), followed by the mouse sensitivity and (boo, hiss) auto-aim options. A patch released on 22 June appeared to boost performance too, though, again, my testing was a bit erratic so don’t take that as gospel.Īnyway, on to the controls. My i5-6600 / 16GB RAM / 4GB 380X machine couldn’t manage a solid 60fps with everything maxed out, but seemed to hold it the vast majority of the time with a couple of things turned down (the graphics settings image up there has the options I settled on, although the constant black screening made consistent testing a little awkward). I mean sure, my nose is on the wall here, but yikes. The most immediately noticeable difference is the shadow quality. Here’s a comparison between the lowest and highest settings in Umbrella Corps. Your other tweakables are Shadows (low/standard/high), Tone Mapping (which I think has something to do with creating the illusion of high dynamic range), Ambient Occlusion (off/low.standard/high), Realtime Reflection (off/low/standard/high), Bloom (off/low/high) and Motion Blur (off/on). That gave me a slightly frightening 800+ fps on all the loading screens, so I put it back to 60. This latter option is as good as its word, uncapping the frame-rate and leaving its upper limits to the powers of your imagination (or rather the power of your PC). The other options (1600×900, 1280×720 and so on) were all in the 16:9 aspect ratio.ĭisplay mode offers you fullscreen or windowed (no borderless windowed here Update: ‘fullscreen’ may actually be borderless windowed see comments below the article), while the frame-rate can be capped at 30, 60 or left as ‘variable’. Resolution options topped out at 1920×1080 for me, but that’s also the size of my monitor. These aren’t exactly lavish, but at least there are a few things to fiddle with. Click on any of these to make them larger. But let’s start by having a look at the graphics options. It has some pretty substantial problems, which we’ll get to in due course. What I can still look at is how well this Resident Evil branded affair has made the transition to PC. This is a multiplayer-focused title, and it’s not exactly reasonable for me to show up for matches and then crash out after ten minutes. That’s all on AMD rather than Capcom or Umbrella Corps itself (at least, as far as I know) but it does mean that this overview of the PC version is going to stick to the technical side of things, and be particularly light on gameplay impressions. Reverting to Crimson 16.5.3 from 16.6.1, alas, did not help. This is the first time I’ve been hit with the bug in several months (probably Assassin’s Creed Syndicate around January or so), but it came back with a vengeance for this release. ![]() Thanks to the unwelcome return of a persistent AMD driver bug causing 380/380X cards to crash to black screens in certain games, I’ve had a hard time playing Umbrella Corps on PC for any extended periods of time.

It's coming to Netflix, as you mentioned, on December 1. So it's one of those films that when you're talking it over with your friends, you realize that a look that was exchanged between two characters seemed to mean one thing when you watched it, but now you realize what was actually being communicated in that look. So this is kind of a tough movie about, among other things, how masculinity can curdle and how homophobia in particular poisons the soul.īut when it's over, you start to realize - and I'm going to be careful here - you start to realize that certain things that seemed just like a series of events were in fact a very intentional design. And, man, Cumberbatch's character is so racked with jealousy and just this pure seething malice that he sets out to destroy her. He brings his new bride, played by Kirsten Dunst, and her teenage son home to live with him and his brother, who is played by Benedict Cumberbatch. WELDON: Well, it's Jane Campion's latest film, and she's returning to some of the themes that she explored back in "The Piano." It's - Jesse Plemons is a rancher in Montana in the 1920s. MARTINEZ: Now another movie set to release on Netflix is called "The Power Of The Dog." Glen, you've said that this film is your favorite of the year. I - look, I'm never going to tell anybody that this kind of film is groundbreaking or whatever, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. ![]() And it's a very classic rom-com set up, which is why this kind of thing always runs on charm and not surprise. And there's a lot of kind of then she finds the guy whose picture it really was and their identities are scrambled. She spontaneously decides to go and visit him, and she learns that, you know, he's not the person she thought in terms of his photo. This has a very classic romantic comedy set up, which is that, you know, she gets interested in his online dating profile, but he's using someone else's picture. This is a kind of a more laid back rom-com lead for him. He was also in "Silicon Valley" and a bunch of other things. Yang you might know from kind of broader comedy stuff. You know, many people have seen - whether you have seen them on Hallmark or Lifetime or Netflix or wherever - these kind of holiday rom-coms. HOLMES: So "Love Hard" is a Netflix film. It's called "Love Hard." What's "Love Hard" about? Linda, now you have a recommendation that's sure maybe to put us in a bright holiday spirit. That's "The Humans," which is in theaters now, and it's also streaming on Showtime. You're not going to forget these performances. And I realize as I say this out loud, that doesn't sound like fun for the whole family over Thanksgiving. We hear the heavy footsteps of their neighbors and the creaking pipes and this ancient, wheezing elevator that really creates a real profound sense of dread and claustrophobia. There is an extra element to this film, and that's the sound design. You've got Jayne Houdyshell, who won the Tony for this role on Broadway, Steven Yeun, Beanie Feldstein, Amy Schumer. ![]() The writing here and particularly the performances are so grounded that it really feels like you're eavesdropping on this family. It may not shock you to learn that, over the course of the dinner, secrets get revealed. ![]() Now, on paper, that may sound like a pretty familiar setup for drama. There's a young woman and her boyfriend who invite her parents and sister, as well as her ailing grandmother, over for Thanksgiving in her rundown apartment in Manhattan that they haven't furnished yet because they just moved in. And as you mentioned, it takes place in real time over the course of a Thanksgiving dinner. ![]() This is "The Humans." It's hard to describe. A movie on your list about a family who's celebrating Thanksgiving in a Manhattan apartment - tell us about this film. Now, I don't know why I would be compelled to watch anything other than the winless Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving, but it seems like there's a lot new content that I should be thankful for. And they're here with a list of recommendations. NPR critics Linda Holmes and Glen Weldon co-host NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast. Now, whether that means cozying up with family and loved ones or sneaking away from that contentious conversation around the dinner table, there's plenty to watch on TV this Thanksgiving. Many of us will gather in person for Thanksgiving and for the first time in actually a couple of years. |
